Project Overview

Tonyrefail Community School, located in Cardiff, underwent a significant £44 million renovation in 2019. The redevelopment transformed the institution into a state-of-the-art educational facility accommodating approximately 1,500 pupils aged 3 to 19. The upgraded campus boasts modern classrooms, science laboratories, lecture theatres, and dedicated study spaces, aligning with the school's commitment to providing a comprehensive learning environment.

To complement these advancements, One Vision Digital Ltd was commissioned to design and install a cutting-edge Satellite Master Antenna Television (SMATV) system, ensuring seamless integration with the school's existing network infrastructure.

Client Requirements

The primary objectives for the SMATV system installation were:

  • Deliver high-quality television services across the entire campus.
  • Integrate the TV distribution system with the school's existing IP network.
  • Ensure scalability and future-proofing for emerging technologies.
  • Minimise disruption during installation within the operational school environment.

Our Solution

To meet these requirements, One Vision Digital Ltd collaborated with Whiteheads Electrical to implement a robust 5-wire SMATV distribution system, which included:

  • TDX Headend Installation: Deployment of a true IP headend capable of delivering television services over the school's network infrastructure.
  • Signal Distribution: Integration of Triax 5-wire multiswitches to manage signal distribution efficiently throughout the campus.
  • Network Integration: Seamless incorporation of the SMATV system into the school's existing IP network, allowing for centralised control and monitoring.

This configuration ensures that each area within the school receives a full range of television services with excellent picture and sound quality, enhancing the educational experience for both students and staff.
