MATV Installation at Frog Street Student Accommodation, Exeter
Project Overview
In 2018, the city of Exeter saw the completion of a major £6 million redevelopment project at Frog Street, delivering modern student accommodation to meet the growing demand for high-quality university housing. The development, delivered by Create Construction in partnership with Amser, comprises 98 self-contained studio rooms tailored to the needs of today’s students.
As part of the specification for modern student living, One Vision Digital Ltd was contracted to design and install a comprehensive Master Antenna Television (MATV) system. Our objective was to provide every resident with reliable access to terrestrial TV services via a shared, centralised infrastructure—eliminating the need for multiple aerials and ensuring signal quality throughout the building.
Client Requirements
The MATV solution needed to meet several key requirements:
- Distribute digital Freeview signals to 98 individual student studios.
- Ensure consistent signal quality throughout the building.
- Maintain a clean external appearance with no unsightly individual aerials.
- Design an easily maintainable and scalable infrastructure for future upgrades.
Our Solution
To meet the project's requirements, One Vision Digital Ltd designed and installed a robust MATV system that incorporated:
- A Centralised Aerial Array: Strategically mounted to capture digital terrestrial television signals with maximum clarity.
- High-Quality Cabling: We used durable, low-loss coaxial cable throughout the building to ensure minimal signal degradation.
- Multiple Signal Splitters: A combination of 12-way, 14-way and 16-way splitters was employed to route the signal to each studio flat while maintaining optimal signal strength.
- Signal Balancing and Testing: Every connection point was tested and balanced to deliver equal performance across all studios.
This system ensures that every student enjoys uninterrupted access to Freeview channels without the need for their own equipment or subscription services.
