SMATV System - Brunel House, Student Accommodation - Bristol

Brunel House is a self-catered student residence located within a beautifully restored historic building. Since opening in 2018, it has provided high-quality accommodation for students in a central and well-connected area.

One Vision worked in close partnership with Brunel House to deliver a comprehensive satellite TV distribution solution. The objective was to ensure every room in the building could access a full range of satellite and terrestrial television services.

To achieve this, we installed a two-satellite, nine-wire cable distribution system specifically designed to support Sky+, SkyQ, and Freesat services throughout the building. The system was engineered using a specialist fibre optic cable infrastructure, eliminating the risk of signal loss over long cable runs – a common challenge in larger or multi-floor buildings.

The setup includes two satellite feeds:

• ASTRA 28.2°E – Provides access to Sky, SkyQ, Sky+, and Freesat
• HOTBIRD 13.0°E – Offers a wide range of international and multilingual channels, including Turkish, Spanish, and Arabic programming

By combining these two satellites, Brunel House residents are able to enjoy both mainstream UK content and diverse international broadcasts – a perfect fit for the multicultural student population.
