SMATV System Installation at Maelfa High Rise, Cardiff
Project Overview
The Maelfa High Rise, also known as Ty Maelfa, is a 45-flat residential tower located in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff. As part of the multi-million-pound Maelfa Regeneration Scheme, the building underwent extensive external refurbishment between November 2017 and May 2019. The refurbishment aimed to transform the area into a vibrant community hub, enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the residential block.
One Vision Digital Ltd was commissioned to upgrade the existing television systems within the building, ensuring residents had access to modern and reliable TV services.
Client Requirements
The primary objectives for the SMATV system installation were:
- Provide residents with access to both terrestrial (Freeview) and satellite (Sky, Freesat) television services.
- Ensure compatibility with both Sky HD and Sky Q+ services.
- Maintain uninterrupted TV services during the installation process, as the building remained occupied.
- Implement a scalable and maintainable infrastructure for future upgrades.
Our Solution
To meet these requirements, One Vision Digital Ltd implemented a robust 5-wire SMATV distribution system, which included:
- Parallel Installation: The new system was installed alongside the existing one to ensure continuous TV services for residents during the transition.
- Sky Q+ Integration: Separate switches were installed specifically for Sky Q+ services, as standard SMATV 5-wire systems are not compatible with both Sky HD and Sky Q+.
- Quality Equipment: Deployment of Triax 5-wire multiswitches and high-grade coaxial cabling to ensure minimal signal loss and optimal performance.
This configuration ensured that each flat received a full range of television services with excellent picture and sound quality, enhancing the residents' experience.
