Overview
In the summer of 2018, the Maeshir Sheltered Accommodation in Glynneath underwent a transformative £800,000 redevelopment. Led by Port Talbot-based contractor Jistcourt, the project converted outdated bedsits into modern one- and two-bedroom flats, complete with new kitchens, wet rooms, updated electrics, and heating systems. To complement these upgrades, One Vision Digital Ltd was commissioned to design and install a state-of-the-art Satellite Master Antenna Television (SMATV) system, ensuring residents had access to a comprehensive range of television services.
Project Scope
The primary objective was to provide residents with seamless access to Freeview, Freesat, and Sky television services. To achieve this, One Vision Digital Ltd implemented a robust SMATV infrastructure, which included:
- Installation of a satellite dish and aerial to capture broadcast signals.
- Integration of a 5-wire launch amplifier to distribute signals efficiently.
- Deployment of multiple 32-way multiswitches to manage signal distribution to individual flats.
This setup ensured that each flat received high-quality television signals without the need for individual satellite dishes or aerials, preserving the building's aesthetics and reducing maintenance requirements.
Technical Implementation
The SMATV system was meticulously designed to cater to the specific needs of the Maeshir development.
- 5-Wire System: Utilizing a 5-wire configuration allowed for the distribution of multiple satellite and terrestrial signals simultaneously, providing residents with a diverse range of viewing options.
- Launch Amplifier: The central amplifier ensured consistent signal strength across all outlets, mitigating potential signal degradation over distance.
- Multiswitches: Strategically placed 32-way multiswitches facilitated efficient signal routing to each flat, allowing for future scalability and easy maintenance.
Outcomes
The successful installation of the SMATV system by One Vision Digital Ltd resulted in:
- Enhanced Resident Experience: Residents now enjoy a wide array of television services with superior signal quality.
- Aesthetic Preservation: The centralized system eliminated the need for multiple external dishes, maintaining the building's visual appeal.
- Future-Proofing: The scalable infrastructure allows for easy integration of additional services or upgrades as technology evolves.
