SMATV Installation at Old Polegate Station, East Sussex

SMATV Installation at Old Polegate Station, East Sussex

Project Overview

Old Polegate Station, a historic Victorian building in East Sussex, was slated for redevelopment into a 3.5-storey complex comprising a convenience store at the lower ground level and 22 residential flats above, complete with associated parking. The building, which had previously served as a pub and restaurant, ceased operations in May 2016. Recognising the need for modern amenities in the new residential units, One Vision Digital Ltd was commissioned to design and install a comprehensive Satellite Master Antenna Television (SMATV) system throughout the development.

Client Requirements

The primary objectives for the SMATV system installation were:

  • Provide residents with access to both terrestrial (Freeview) and satellite (Sky, Freesat) television services.
  • Ensure high-quality signal reception in all flats.
  • Implement a scalable and maintainable infrastructure for future technological advancements.

Our Solution

To meet these requirements, One Vision Digital Ltd implemented a robust 5-wire SMATV fibre distribution system, which included:

  • Triax 5-Wire SMATV Fibre System: Installation of a Triax 5-wire SMATV fibre system to distribute signals efficiently throughout the building.
  • Dual Outlet Configuration: Each flat was equipped with two outlets—one providing access to Sky, Freeview, and Freesat services, and the other supplying terrestrial television.
  • Signal Distribution: Deployment of high-quality multiswitches and fibre cabling to ensure consistent signal quality across all outlets.

This configuration ensures that each flat receives a full range of television services with excellent picture and sound quality, enhancing the residents' experience.

Project Outcome

The successful implementation of the SMATV system at Old Polegate Station resulted in:

  • Enhanced Resident Satisfaction: Residents enjoy a wide selection of television channels with consistent signal quality.
  • Efficient Infrastructure: The centralised system simplifies maintenance and allows for future scalability, ensuring long-term reliability.
  • Aesthetic Preservation: The design negates the need for multiple external dishes or aerials, maintaining the development's visual integrity.
